Watford vs Wolves Match Preview
Two clubs targeting European football for the first time since the 1980s, as well as FA Cup glory, go head-to-head at Wembley in what looks an evenly-matched semi-final.
Although Wolves possess the greater history, having been one of English football’s very top clubs in the 1950s, there are plenty of similarities between them and Watford – both begin with W, play in yellow(ish) and black and are having near-identical Premier League campaigns which are about as good as they could have both expected.
The only way one of the duo will not be playing Europa League football next season is if Brighton win the FA Cup – and they would need to beat Manchester City in Saturday’s first semi-final – or, if City triumph at Wembley, Wolves or Watford are denied seventh place in the Premier League table by a fast-finishing Leicester, Everton or West Ham.
Of course, Wolves or Watford lifting the FA Cup would take care of the European conundrum, so which of the pair will give themselves a shot at silverware back at Wembley on May 18?
Watford have had the easier passage, but Wolves will not want to waste a campaign in which they have knocked out Liverpool and Manchester United and they are backed to prevail in 90 minutes after sustaining their momentum with another win over the Red Devils on Tuesday.
