Watford vs Wolves Match Preview
Wolves may still be hurting from their FA Cup heartbreak against Watford three weeks ago – and there could be more pain in store for them at Vicarage Road this weekend.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side led the Wembley semi-final 2-0 entering the last 11 minutes but ended up losing 3-2 in extra time as substitute Gerard Deulofeu inspired Watford’s fightback.
The Hornets’ success meant they will get a shot at preventing a potential Manchester City domestic treble on May 18 and also securing a place in next season’s Europa League.
But if Watford lose the FA Cup Final, the team that finishes seventh in the Premier League table will qualify for Europe – and it could be either of this duo, Everton or Leicester.
Going into the last three rounds of matches, Wolves are in pole position to be the ‘best of the rest’, one point ahead of Watford after a superb 3-1 home victory over Arsenal in midweek.
The previous night, Javi Gracia’s side had been held 1-1 at Vicarage Road by Southampton, but they effectively had to try and overcome a one-goal handicap in that match having conceded the fastest ever Premier League goal scored by Shane Long after seven seconds.
As Wolves have been saving their best performances for when facing top-six clubs during 2019, they could be vulnerable here and Watford are backed to have the last laugh against them just as they did at Wembley.
