Watford vs Crystal Palace Match Preview
Crystal Palace will be aiming to continue their strong record against all but the top clubs this season when they visit Watford, seeking a third Premier League victory in eight days.
The Eagles had a particularly tough run of fixtures for just over a month from mid-October and collected only one point from a possible 15, but they have really felt the benefit of getting through that difficult patch.
After locking horns with all of the current top four plus Arsenal, Roy Hodgson’s side have faced Burnley away and Bournemouth at home in the past week and won 2-0 and 1-0 respectively, climbing to fifth in the table before the eight Wednesday and Thursday games.
Against Bournemouth, Palace still found a way to prevail despite having Mamadou Sakho sent off in only the 19th minute and then losing Patrick van Aanholt to injury, exacerbating a defensive selection crisis that had already claimed Gary Cahill, Scott Dann and Joel Ward.
Cahill or Dann may have a chance of partnering James Tomkins at Vicarage Road – with Cheikhou Kouyate pressed into emergency defensive service on Tuesday – and they will be needed as Palace do not have a good recent record at this venue (see above).
Besides the head-to-head stats, relegation-threatened Watford’s need for points is greater at this time and with home advantage, they may just be able to hold their in-form opponents.
