Watford vs Bournemouth Match Preview

Watford are still seeking a first Premier League win of the season and despite being favourites to win at home to Bournemouth, their odds do not appeal.

The Hornets have made very limited improvement since Quique Sanchez Flores returned as manager to replace his fellow Spaniard, Javi Gracia. They are perhaps slightly harder to beat now but that opening victory has yet to arrive.

In fairness, it should have come at Tottenham last weekend. Watford’s hosts were there for the taking and an upset was on the cards until Dele Alli’s late equaliser salvaged a 1-1 draw. Sanchez Flores’ side also found two contentious VAR decisions going against them, including the non-award of what looked a stonewall penalty!

But previously, Watford had been second best in a 0-0 home draw with Sheffield United and we do not trust them to justify their shortish price against Bournemouth, who are capable of pretty much anything on the performance spectrum on any given day.

Usually, you can expect goals when the Cherries play, but to underline the point above they drew 0-0 at home to Norwich last weekend in what we thought would be a goalfest – instead, both teams kept their first clean sheet of the season!

However, goals tend to flow between Watford and Bournemouth and four of their last six meetings have ended 2-2 or 3-3. Nothing has radically changed to suggest it will be much different this time and the home team’s lengthy wait for a win may well continue.
