Watford vs Arsenal Match Preview
Quique Sanchez Flores has returned to Watford aiming to show they should have stuck with him after the 2015-16 season instead of going through three different subsequent managers.
The Hornets may wish they had saved themselves a lot of money and upheaval over the last three years or so, with Sanchez Flores sacked after leading the club to 13th position in their first season back in the Premier League.
Walter Mazzarri, Marco Silva and the recently fired Javi Gracia all did okay too, but it is hard to reject the notion that Sanchez Flores may have done no worse than any of them had he been given the chance to stay.
Anyway, the Spaniard is back to replace his compatriot Gracia who has paid the price for a poor start to this season and a bad end to the last campaign, with Watford bottom of the table with only one point from their first four matches.
It is far from an easy start against Arsenal, but at least key players like Troy Deeney, Craig Cathcart and Etienne Capoue will be familiar with Sanchez Flores’ methods which worked well for most of that 2015-16 campaign.
Arsenal have made a generally par-for-the-course start which put them fifth in the table during the international break, but they need to beware the ‘new manager syndrome’ here as Sanchez Flores could get the reaction he is seeking against the team managed by his fellow former Valencia boss Unai Emery.
