Watford vs Arsenal Match Preview
Nobody was expecting such an impressive season from Watford this time around. After the poor form they displayed under the guidance of Javi Gracia following his arrival in Hertfordshire last season, many were even tipping them for a season of struggling in the relegation battle but instead, the Spanish boss and his side look set for a top ten finish minimum and they have also reached the FA Cup Final where they will face Manchester City next month.
Although they haven’t been able to continue the terrific form that had them in the Champions League places after the first few weeks of the season, the Hornets have continued to be difficult to break down all season and particularly at Vicarage Road, where they are unbeaten in their last six and have won their last four. As such, they’ll feel capable of beating Arsenal here, like they did last season, at odds of 13/5 with PaddyPower.
Arsenal are embroiled in a battle to return to the Champions League on two fronts this season. The Gunners are not only in a race for a top four finish alongside the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, they’re also through to the Quarter Finals of the Europa League, a tournament that manager Unai Emery has enjoyed plenty of success in over the years, and are leading Italian giants Napoli 2-0 after a fine first leg win on Thursday night.
On Monday night though, attention returns to the Premier League, with the Gunners currently sitting in fifth place, just a point behind rivals Spurs who occupy the fourth spot currently and three points behind Chelsea in third with a game in hand. On the road though, Emery’s men have struggled of late, losing three and drawing one of their last four away games in all competitions – can they end that poor form with three points here at 5/4 with Bet365?
We’re backing Watford to upset the odds here. The Gunners lost here at Vicarage Road last season and they continue to struggle on the road under Unai Emery, having not won in their last four away games and having failed to keep a clean sheet away from home all season. The Hornets meanwhile are unbeaten in six games in front of their own fans so we’re backing them with the draw on the double chance market for some security at odds of 4/6 with Bet365.
Troy Deeney scored in that win for the Gunners last season and was quick to tell the press afterwards that he knew how to get the better of the Gunners backline. The 30 year old seems to be playing with real confidence at the moment, his FA Cup semi-final goal against Wolves being his 11th in all competitions this season. You can get odds of 21/10 with PaddyPower for him to get his 12th of the season here.
