Walsall vs Barnsley Match Preview
Walsall are one of many teams that find themselves deep in the relegation dogfight that is ensuing in the bottom half of League One this season. As things stand, the Tykes sit fourth bottom and in the drop zone but with less than ten points separating the whole bottom half of the table as things stand, they still have plenty of time to turn things around once they get through this run of particularly difficult fixtures.
Having lost to third placed Sunderland and fourth placed Portsmouth in their last two games, Dean Keates’ side now come up against second placed Barnsley but before those two defeats the Midlands outfit had shown some better form to pick up seven important points from three games against Bradford City, Burton Albion and Fleetwood Town. Can they pull off a surprise victory in front of the television cameras here at 4/1 with Bet365?
Barnsley are looking to follow the success that the likes of Huddersfield Town and Norwich City have enjoyed under German managers this season. Daniel Stendel moved to South Yorkshire last summer and quickly assembled a talented young squad that has gone from strength to strength throughout the season and as a result, currently sits above both Sunderland and Portsmouth and in second place in the League One table.
Although the Black Cats and Doncaster have held them to draws in their last two outings, the Tykes have now amassed 18 league games without tasting defeat and they will still have one eye on chasing down current league leaders Luton Town and picking up the title despite some injury problems blighting their squad in recent weeks. Can the Reds’ promotion push take another step towards success with three points here at odds of 4/6 with PaddyPower?
Barnsley’s backline has been in particularly impressive form of late. The Tykes have not conceded in their last six outings despite coming up against the likes of Sunderland and Portsmouth in that run and as such, we can see them being too strong here for a Walsall outfit that has struggled at times for goals this season, with only four teams in the division finding the net fewer times. We’re backing the home win to nil at 15/8 with Bet365.
Cauley Woodrow has shouldered the goalscoring burden for Barnsley following a season-ending injury to star striker Kieffer Moore. The 24 year old has led the line well in Moore’s absence since his arrival on loan from Fulham in January, finding the net seven times in just 14 appearances. He’s our anytime scorer tip here at PaddyPower.
