Villarreal vs Deportivo Alaves Match Preview
Villarreal host Deportivo Alaves desperate for points to escape the relegation zone, where they sit two behind Celta Vigo after a disappointing trip to Atletico Madrid (2-0) ended a streak of four games without a loss – where they got past Sporting CP (2-1) in Europa League and earned four points in clashes against Sevilla (3-0) and Valladolid (0-0).
Yellow Submarine will now be very motivated to keep it up and building on such a character at Estadio de la Ceramica will be crucial for their ambitions to escape the red zone towards the final part of the campaign. Javi Calleja’s men have struggled for consistency in the final third, though, and have a lot to prove on Saturday.
Deportivo Alaves have been hard to break down at the back and conceded just one goal in their last three outings, beating Levante (2-0) and holding off both Betis (1-1) and Celta (0-0) to keep afloat in the La Liga’s top 6 despite the chasers piling up behind them.
Babazorros can hardly boast stability on the road and this will be more worrying ahead of the trip, where they earned just two wins in 11 trips since late September. They base their success on a tough defensive approach lately and we now expect them with more of the same, with a lot to play for in the Valencian Community.
They’ve snatched four wins in nine trips to this ground so far and we will now stick with Alaves to leave unbeaten on Saturday, going for a Double Chance – Draw or Away win at 5/4 with bet365 – which feels overpriced at this point.
They could have to impress at the back to do so and seeing both sides regularly enjoying such clashes, we’re now also backing Under 2.5 Goals FT at 10/11 with Paddy Power. We’ve seen such occasions in four of both sides’ last five outings, which feels like further evidence for such a bet.
