Valencia vs Sevilla Match Preview
Valencia’s fans are not enjoying the happiest of seasons and they could see their team make it four matches without a win when they host Sevilla on Wednesday.
Peter Lim, also the biggest individual shareholder at Salford City, is not the most popular owner in Spain and he again upset the Valencia fans earlier this season when he sacked manager Marcelino Garcia Toral – a move that has not proved particularly successful so far.
Marcelino fell out with Lim and his replacement, Albert Celades, has done only an average job up to now – which is perhaps better than expected considering his players all refused to attend a press conference with him less than a week after his appointment to show their solidarity behind his predecessor!
Now Celades goes up against Julen Lopetegui, whom he assisted with the Spain national team and Real Madrid, with the Sevilla manager currently rebuilding his reputation quite effectively after his ill-fated move to the Bernabeu last year.
Sevilla are only one point off the top of La Liga table and also have a perfect record in what is admittedly a pretty easy Europa League group, with three wins to nil so far.
However, what Valencia have going for them is a solid domestic home record this term, unbeaten in five matches, and strong head-to-head stats against Sevilla (see above) – and the draw we are backing here would preserve both of those while also extending their winless run in all competitions to four games.
