Valencia vs Celtic Match Preview

Valencia did exactly what we predicted when they won the first leg of this tie 2-0 and there looks to be no way back for Celtic.

Despite their dominance in Scotland, the Hoops still have some way to go before they can truly match up to the continent’s best teams and that was clearly evident last week.

Although Los Che are only ninth in La Liga table this term, they were still far too clinical for Celtic as goals from Denis Cheryshev and Ruben Sobrino put them firmly in command.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers cited “concentration”, or lack of it, and “basic mistakes” for his side’s defeat, but insisted that if they could score an early goal at the Mestalla then the tie was far from over.

But Spain is not a happy hunting ground for the Glasgow giants and they have never won a single match in that country on 16 previous trips, let alone by a two-goal margin in 90 minutes which is the minimum requirement here.

Unbeaten in the last 12 matches on their own pitch, Valencia have already won at home to Manchester United in the Champions League this term and while they have resumed their early-season habit of too many draws domestically of late, three consecutive clean sheets suggests they are a good bet to beat Celtic again.
