USA vs Costa Rica Match Preview
USA ended 2019 on a high and they kick off the new year with hopes that they can keep it up, as they host Costa Rica for their Friendly clash on Saturday evening. They topped the Nations League Group A with wins over Canada (4-1) and Cuba (0-4) in their last two outings, with Gregg Berhalter surely just asking for more of the same.
Stars and Stripes have been led by in-form Jordan Morris but Gyasi Zardes and Joshua Sargent both bagged braces along the way, as they finally felt convincing in the final third. They have seen an unpredictable run beforehand and building on consistency early in 2020 will be crucial.
Costa Rica have, on the other hand, earned six points in four Group D outings but it was still enough to top the table ahead of Curacao and Haiti. They earned just one win (1-2 at Curacao) in seven outings across competitions and this could be more worrying, as Ronald Gonzalez looks desperate for a pick-me-up.
Ticos have refreshed their line-up and given a chance to some of their young stars, which hasn’t really been fruitful in the Nations League. They will need to show more if they’re to cause an upset at Dignity Health Sports Park and we don’t see them making it happen at this point.
We will thus stick with USA to bag their fourth win in five outings since October and we’ll go for a Home win at 1/2 with bet365, which feels like buying money for old rope as they seem to be in a much better place at the moment.
Still, we don’t see them bagging as many goals now and we’ll also go for a low-scoring occasion in Carson, California. We’ll back Under 2.5 Goals FT at 7/10 with Paddy Power and hope for a tough challenge from Costa Rica despite no high stakes involved.
