Uruguay vs Peru Stats
- Uruguay beat Costa Rica (1-2) and saw a 1-1 draw against United States in their last two outings
- Peru have beaten Brazil (0-1) in September to end a streak of two losses
- La Blanquirroja bagged a Copa America Quarter-finals win (on penalties after a goalless draw) over Uruguay in June
Uruguay vs Peru Match Preview
Uruguay host Peru for their friendly clash this weekend, just months after seeing a disappointing Copa America Quarter-finals exit in the hands of the rivals. They now hope to take revenge and regain consistency towards late in the year – with a scheduled trip to Lima next week also on the cards.
La Celeste have bounced with a September win over Costa Rica (1-2) where Cruz Azul’s Jonathan Rodriguez found a late winner, as Oscar Tabarez continues his shift to younger players. They’ve failed to build on the success and saw a 1-1 draw in the United States, as they conceded rather late this time around.
They could now need more as Peru comes into the match on the back of a September win over Brazil (0-1), where they shut down the rivals and bagged a late winner in Los Angeles despite a dominant display from the rivals through most part of the match. Ricardo Gareca has made fewer changes and Paolo Guerrero will now lead the line in his 100th appearance with the national side.
La Blanquirroja have more to build on after a successful Copa America campaign but it hardly matters at this point. Still, they’ve shown they can play on the road and will surely want to show off at Estadio Centenario – promising an exciting challenge and a great game of football this weekend.
We do feel Uruguay will have what it takes to secure a win and we’ll go for it at 22/25 with Unibet, which feels like the best approach to the fixture at this point despite their rather unpredictable spell of form through most of the year.
We feel the young outfit will be very motivated and we now hope for goals, where Uruguay could be forced to outgun the rivals to secure such success. We’ll thus also go for a high-scoring occasion in Montevideo, backing Over 2.5 Goals FT at 21/20 with bet365.
