UAE vs Saudi Arabia Match Preview
Saudi Arabia travel to United Arab Emirates for their friendly clash on Thursday looking to put a somewhat disappointing trip here for Asian Cup in January behind them, having crashed out of the competition with a 1-0 loss to Japan in 8th Finals.
Green Falcons have been picking it up through friendlies beforehand and the Group loss to Qatar (0-2) only ended a six-match unbeaten streak, where they bagged four wins and two draws. They’ve proven themselves a tough side to score against and we feel they’ll be able to show off as such on the day as well.
United Arab Emirates have seen a similar streak ended by Qatar (4-0) but only after making it to the Asian Cup semi-finals, knocking out Kyrgyzstan (3-2) and Australia (1-0) along the way. They will now want to impress in front of the home fans and regain consistency still early in 2019, which promises a great challenge at Al-Nahyan Stadium.
However, UAE have had troubles scoring numbers of goals along the way and turning clashes their way, which could be more worrying for Saleem Abdel Rahman. We do see them putting on a challenge worthy of such a reputation here but we don’t feel they have what it takes to outclass the visitors.
We will thus stick our necks out for a Draw on the day and it feels like the best approach to the fixture, with both sides coming in need of a pick-me-up but struggling to turn clashes their way along the way.
Indeed, we’ve been used to tough defensive performances on both ends and seeing the sides’ base success on such displays, we’re now also going for a low-scoring contest at Al-Nahyan Stadium with Under 2.5 Goals FT. We’ve seen two or fewer goals in eight of both sides’ respective last ten outings and this feels like further evidence for such a bet.
