Tranmere vs Portsmouth Match Preview
Tranmere host Portsmouth for their Matchday 32 clash on Saturday afternoon, just days after seeing a comfortable 0-3 loss to Doncaster at this ground and failing to catch up with 20th placed AFC Wimbledon – with a six-point gap to League One survival after 28 games played.
More worryingly, this was the fourth consecutive loss for the Rovers and ending the unwanted streak will be no easy task against Portsmouth either. They failed to find the net in any of those four games too, seeing an FA Cup thrashing in the hands of Man United (0-6) while Sunderland (0-1) and Bolton (2-0) snatched the points.
Portsmouth will now be motivated to put on a similar challenge at Prenton Park and they seem to be in a much better place at this point, coming into the match on the back of an eight-match winning streak where they made their way past Walsall (1-2) and Scunthorpe (2-1) in EFL Trophy, beat Fleetwood (1-2) and Barnsley (4-2) in FA Cup, and earned 12 points in four League One outings.
Pompey made the top 6 cut with a 2-0 win over Sunderland last week, where Chris Burgess and James Bolton found the net to make it a comfortable contest for them. They have thus also kept their third clean sheet in five outings and Kenny Jackett will rightfully hope his men can shut the rivals out now as well.
We will back them to snatch all three points and going for an Away win at 8/11 with BetVictor feels like value, seeing Portsmouth have been in great form and Tranmere come into the match with a rather contrasting run behind them.
We do feel Pompey will want to base such success on a tough defensive display before anything else. While we expect few goals and a narrow contest on Saturday, we’ll also back the visitors to keep a clean sheet at 6/4 with William Hill.
