Tottenham vs Brighton Match Preview
Tottenham’s season is largely about the Champions League now. At this late stage of the campaign they are out of the race for the Premier League title and have missed out once again on both domestic cup competitions, but they continue to fight for a top four place in the table and remarkably, they remain in the European competition, last week’s win over Manchester City taking them through to the semi-finals on away goals.
A return to more familiar surroundings in N17 has helped spur Mauricio Pochettino’s side on in recent weeks, with them winning their first three fixtures at the new home without conceding a goal. Away from home they continue to struggle and they aren’t expected to take anything from their second trip to the Etihad Stadium in a matter of days over the weekend meaning three points here are pivotal at 4/11 with bet365.
Brighton & Hove Albion now find themselves in a real battle to remain in the Premier League this season. In only their second campaign at the top table since their promotion from the Championship two years ago, the Seagulls will have been hoping to establish themselves as a Premier League outfit but with five games remaining (four after the fixture versus Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend) they sit just two points clear of the bottom three.
A 0-2 home defeat at the hands of Cardiff City last weekend was vital for two reasons. Firstly, the Bluebirds are the only team in the bottom three who can still chase Chris Hughton’s side down and secondly, it means the south coast club have now lost their last five consecutive games in all competitions including that semi-final versus Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Can they earn a surprise win here at odds of 9/1 with William Hill and go down in history as the first away side to win at this ground?
For us, the hosts should have too much quality for their opponents here and they’ve looked great defensively at this new ground so far, keeping clean sheets in their first three matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Brighton meanwhile have really struggled in front of goal of late, failing to score in their last five games in all competitions. As such, the home win to nil is our best bet at odds of 6/5 with bet365.
Son Heung Min was on the scoresheet twice in Tottenham’s dramatic Champions League win at Manchester City last week. The South Korea forward has racked up 20 goals in all competitions for the Lilywhites now and with Harry Kane out injured, he’s the man expected to shoulder the goalscoring burden. We’re backing him to score at any time again here at odds of 21/20 with bet365.
