Tottenham Hotspur vs Watford Match Preview
Tottenham suffered five days from hell leading up to the international break but have the chance to start afresh when they host the Premier League’s bottom club, Watford.
If losing 7-2 at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League was not bad enough, Spurs were then beaten 3-0 away to Brighton and also had goalkeeper Hugo Lloris ruled out until probably January with a dislocated elbow.
Only four months after guiding his team to the Champions League Final, manager Mauricio Pochettino has now found himself under huge pressure and, along with the bosses of two of the Premier League’s other biggest clubs, Marco Silva and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he is in a seemingly three-cornered race to avoid being the English top flight’s next casualty.
Of course, Watford are the only Premier League club so far to have changed their manager since the season began and so it’s like turning the clock back to 2015 as Pochettino and Quique Sanchez Flores go head-to-head.
Sanchez Flores has failed to work his magic up to now on his return to the Hornets, apart from a stirring second-half fightback to claim a draw with Arsenal and a narrow Carabao Cup win over Swansea, and his team remain bottom of the table three points adrift.
This is a suitable fixture for Spurs to start rebuilding some confidence after the reset the international break afforded them and while it may not be emphatic, they are backed to grind out an important win.
