Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton Match Preview
Tottenham’s camp is not a happy one – and this is a far from ideal fixture for them just now against a Southampton side in fantastic form away from home.
Despite reaching last season’s Champions League Final, Spurs’ results since mid-April have generally been poor with only four wins in their last 17 games in all competitions.
A new low was reached this week when Mauricio Pochettino’s side exited the Carabao Cup on penalties against League Two club Colchester, with the manager admitting afterwards not everyone was pulling in the same direction and hinting at dressing-room cliques.
It’s on the road that Tottenham are mainly struggling, but this weekend the problem for them is that the complete opposite is true of Southampton who have hit a reach seam of victories.
Saints have bagged four consecutive wins to nil on their travels, including 4-0 at their arch-rivals Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup this week, and they are now starting to carve out a real identity for themselves under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl after a difficult few years.
Southampton will need to step up again if they are to make it five on the spin away from St Mary’s. They should be full of confidence though and look to have every chance of returning to the south coast with a point – but do not be surprised if they claim all three.
