Tottenham vs Newcastle Predictions
Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to get among the trophies this season. The Lilywhites came close last year, losing out in the Champions League final to Premier League rivals Liverpool, but they’re still yet to win any silverware under popular manager Mauricio Pochettino. The aim this year will be to challenge both in Europa and domestically, particularly after adding some high-profile signings to their squad.
It’s been a solid start for Spurs too. Despite trailing for the majority of their opening fixture against newly-promoted Aston Villa they eventually managed to escape with a 3-1 victory and last week they somehow took a 2-2 draw from their trip to the reigning champions Manchester City thanks to goals from Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela. Can the North Londoners continue that unbeaten start with a win here at 1/4 with William Hill?
Newcastle United’s start to the season has been quite the opposite. Fan protests continue at St James’ Park against unpopular owner Mike Ashley and his relationship with the Toon Army only deteriorated further this summer as Rafa Benitez’s tenure at the club came to an end. Despite being a boyhood Newcastle fan, replacement Steve Bruce is not expected to have the same impact as Benitez, a former Champions League winner during his time with Liverpool.
Perhaps predictably, it’s been a sorry start to the campaign for the Magpies. Despite performing well at times they slipped to a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal on the opening weekend and that was followed up with a 3-1 loss to a Teemu Pukki-inspired Norwich City at Carrow Road last weekend. You can back the North East outfit to get their first points on the board with an unlikely win here at 13/1 with Bet365.
We’re backing a comfortable victory for the hosts here. Newcastle looked low on confidence already in that defeat to the Canaries last weekend and Spurs can welcome back Heung Min Son to the mix here, which will only serve to make them even more of an attacking threat as he links up with Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen. Spurs have scored five goals in two games so far, we’re backing them for a few more here, so -2 on the handicap looks like a good bet to us at 21/10 with Betfair.
Harry Kane scored twice in Tottenham’s opening game of the campaign to rescue all three points against Aston Villa. The England captain will be hoping to beat the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mohamed Salah to the golden boot this season and he’ll be looking to capitalise on a Magpies backline that looks shaky since Benitez’s departure. You can get odds of 12/5 with Bet365 on Kane to open the scoring in this one.
