Switzerland vs Denmark Match Preview
Switzerland have been one of the dark horses of European football over the last few seasons. With a host of talented young players coming through, El Nati managed to progress through the group stages of the World Cup in the summer, qualifying from their group alongside Brazil and ahead of Serbia and Costa Rica before falling to Sweden in the Round of 16 and they performed well in the inaugural Nations League at the end of 2018 too.
Having secured top spot in that group above Belgium and Iceland, Vladimir Petkovic’s side will take on Portugal in the semi-finals of the competition in the summer but for now they are focused on a Euro 2020 qualifying group that they will be expected to qualify from. After opening their campaign with an uncomplicated 2-0 victory over Georgia on Saturday can Switzerland pick up another three points here at 6/5 with William Hill.
Denmark, like their Tueday night opponents, managed to make it out of the group stages at this summer’s World Cup and will count themselves slightly unlucky to have been knocked out without losing a game in normal time. Rode-Hvide started with a narrow 1-0 win over Peru before draws against both Australia and France carried them into the Round of 16 where they were beaten by eventual finalists Croatia on penalties.
It was a strong performance from Age Hareide’s side in the UEFA Nations League too as they managed to beat off competition from the Republic of Ireland and Wales to secure top spot in their group and a play-off place as an absolute minimum in their attempts to qualify for the European Championships next summer. Can they start the actual qualifying period off with three points here at odds of 13/5 with PaddyPower.
We’re backing a share of the spoils here though. Switzerland’s form has been a little shaky since the World Cup with three wins and three defeats whilst Denmark have actually drawn three of their last five matches. What’s more, historical meetings between these two sides have been very tight, with half of the ten previous meetings ending level after 90 minutes. You can back another draw here at odds of 23/10 with Bet365.
The bookmakers clearly fancy a low-scoring clash here and we’re expecting the same. Denmark have played out two goalless draws in their last five games and under Hareide they have made themselves difficult to break down over the last couple of years. In fact, under 2.5 goals have been scored in 12 of Denmark’s last 15 outings so it looks like something of a banker again in this clash at odds of 8/15 with William Hill.
