Swindon Town vs Plymouth Argyle Predictions
Swindon Town will be hoping to chase down a play-off spot at minimum this season after a disappointing midtable finish last term. Former Oldham Athletic boss Richie Wellens came in half-way through the campaign and was able to guide the team to 13th place, but with the funds available and the talent in this squad, a top seven finish must be seen as the aim in the current campaign.
As things stand, the Robins do retain 7th position in the table, but they have lost four of their last five games in all competitions, including a 3-0 defeat to their Saturday League Two opponents Plymouth Argyle in the EFL Trophy in midweek, but the priority is league form – where the Wiltshire side have lost their last two against Bradford City and Newport County. Can they bounce back here at 6/5 with William Hill.
Plymouth Argyle were among the favourites for promotion this season after being relegated from League One last term. The Devon outfit moved to bring in Ryan Lowe, a promotion winner with Bury from this division last term, and the Liverpudlian brought in a host of his former Gigg Lane stars including Danny Mayor and Joe Riley and with the funds available, a lot was expected of his team this season.
Perhaps it is taking time for Lowe and his new players to adapt to life on the south coast, but the Pilgrims haven’t exactly been the title contenders they were expected to be so far and they come into this Saturday’s match sitting in 12th place in the table with their recent form indicative of the inconsistency of a midtable outfit. Can they pick up an important away win over a potential play-off competitor here at 9/4 with Bet365.
We’re struggling to see a winner between these two sides. Although Swindon are higher in the table at the moment and do have the home advantage, they have lost three games on the spin here and their opponents Plymouth appear to have more quality, on paper at least, in their squad. That’s why we’re backing the two sides to cancel each other out and share the points in a draw at odds of 13/8 with Bet365.
Jerry Yates has made a fine start to life as a Swindon Town player after his summer switch from Rotherham United. The 22 year old got on the scoresheet in the defeat at Bradford City last weekend to take his tally to six goals in nine appearances for the Robins and we’re backing him to score again here at odds of 13/8 with Bet365.
