Sweden vs Spain Predictions
Sweden currently sit in a strong position in qualifying for the European Championships but they have work to do in the remaining three games of the group. As things stand, Blagult are second in their group, behind only Spain, but both Romania and Norway are hot on their heels and they have to face Cosmin Contra’s Tricolorii away from home in their next fixture after this tough home clash against one of Europe’s leading sides.
Encouragingly though for boss Janne Andersson, his side have lost just one of their last eight games and have shown their class in doing so, but that one defeat did come in the reverse of this fixture in Madrid back in June. After a thumping 0-4 away win in Malta on Saturday night, the Scandinavian side must now switch gear as they look to spring a shock and pick up a home win here at odds of 7/2 with Betfair.
Having dominated international football from 2008 to 2012, winning all three competitions that they reached the finals of during that time, Spain have struggled to live up to their reputation in their last few tournaments and indeed have struggled for stability with no fewer than four managers in the three years since Vicente del Bosque’s retirement in 2016, so they’ll be desperate to be among the trophies again next summer.
La Roja have faced very few problems in this qualifying section so far and are all set to breeze to qualification as they sit on 19 points, five points clear of their Tuesday night opponents in second, with just three games remaining. In fact, they had won their first six games of the section and only dropped points for the first time over the weekend due to a last-gasp equalising penalty from Norway. The away win here is 10/11 with Bet365.
This Sweden outfit has goals in it and has failed to score in just one of their last eight matches, racking up 19 goals across that period. You’d expect Spain to be slightly stronger defensively than they have perhaps shown in recent games and they have kept only four clean sheets across their last 11 matches. That’s why we’re backing the away win and both teams to score bet at odds of 3/1 with Coral.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored his first international goal in the reverse fixture of this clash in Madrid back in June. The 22 year old has enjoyed a fine start to the La Liga season with Real Sociedad too, scoring four times in his first eight outings of the campaign. We’re backing him for another goal here at odds of 23/10 with Unibet.
