Swansea vs Northampton Match Preview
Swansea host League Two rivals Northampton as they open the new League Cup campaign with a role of heavy favourites at Liberty Stadium, hoping to build on a solid pre-season and a start of the new Championship season – where they bagged four points in two outings already.
Swans have beaten Hull City (2-1) to open it in good spirits and held Derby County to a goalless draw over the weekend, which should have them very confident in search of a ticket to the 2nd Round on Tuesday. They have been scoring goals on the regular and will now want to keep it up, despite struggles to break the deadlock at Pride Park.
Northampton shouldn’t be the same sort of a challenge and they’ve hardly been as convincing, as they suffered a 0-1 loss to Walsall on the opening day and only followed up with a 1-1 draw at Port Vale – where they conceded early on again but managed to pull it even just before half time.
Cobblers have thus been tough to score against but we have seen Keith Curle struggling to find their best shape in the final third, which will be just as worrying now. They have a lot to prove in Swansea but we don’t really see them making an impact on the day either.
We will thus go for Swansea to bag a comfortable win and back them to it at 1/2 with Unibet, which has caught a lot of attention with heavy hitters all around. Swans have been confident April through August and should now have what it takes to keep up such a streak.
We feel they’ll be tough for Northampton to break down and we hope to see them base such a success on a tough defensive setup, as we back Swansea to keep a clean sheet at 11/10 with William Hill – which would be their third in five outings.
