Sunderland vs Plymouth Match Preview
Sunderland have bagged exciting wins over Gillingham (4-2) and Bristol Rovers (0-2) last week, ending a streak of three consecutive draws and catching up with the 2nd placed Barnsley – now sitting two points behind and with a game in hand.
Black Cats thus also extended a 14-match unbeaten streak across competitions and building on their great home records will be essential for their ambitions to secure promotion back to Championship, as Jack Ross’ men regularly net numbers of goals at Stadium of Light and are still to suffer a league loss here.
Plymouth have picked it up since late December too and now find themselves in the mid-table with 41 points to their name, looking to close the gap to the top 6. They’ve bagged six wins in last ten outings with just three draws and a single loss (1-0 at Wycombe) but keeping it up in Sunderland could prove the toughest task yet.
Nonetheless, Pilgrims come into the match on the back of a great 5-1 win over Rochdale where Ladapo (x2), Edwards, Threlkeld, and Smith-Brown all found the net despite still a narrow contest at the hour mark. Derek Adams will now want to keep it up and we do expect a solid challenge on the day.
We still feel strongly about Sunderland keeping up their rock-solid streak in front of the home fans and bagging all three points in a Home win priced at 11/20 with William Hill, which really looks like buying money for old rope here.
With hopes of an attacking approach on both ends and consequently a high-scoring contest at Stadium of Light, we’re also backing Over 2.5 Goals FT at 17/20 with William Hill – which would be the third such occasion for Sunderland at home ground in a row.
