Sunderland vs Gillingham Match Preview
Sunderland have seen two rather disappointing weeks as they suffered three losses in four outings and they now host Gillingham for their FA Cup clash hoping to put it behind them quickly, desperate to show off in front of the home fans and bounce to their winning streak after seeing Leicester U21 (1-2) end it with an EFL Trophy upset.
Black Cats have certainly lost on their consistency but we’ve seen them beat MK Dons (2-1), Grimsby (3-2), Tranmere (5-0), and Southend (1-0) in four home outings beforehand, which will still give them great ground to build on. They’ve been scoring numbers of goals on the regular and keeping it up now will be very important.
Gillingham have seen troubles of their own and the 0-3 home loss to Rotherham last week certainly emphasized them. They’ve earned just two wins in ten outings across competitions and this will obviously not be enough to climb the League One table and it’s really hard to see it enough to make it through to the 2nd Round here.
Gills have been more stable at the back and proven themselves a tougher nut to crack on the road, where they held off Portsmouth (0-0), Shrewsbury (1-1), and beat Accrington (0-1) with a single goal from Regan Charles-Cook. However, we feel causing an upset here will be even more of a task.
We will thus back Sunderland to make their way to the next round and going for a Home win at 63/100 with William Hill feels like buying money for old rope, seeing Phil Parkinson’s men based their success on tough performances at this ground.
We do feel we’re in for thrills and we should be in for goals as well, as we now also back Over 2.5 Goals FT at 37/40 with BetVictor and hope to see in-form attacking lines on both ends once again after seeing 11 goals in the sides’ last two head-to-head clashes.
