Sunderland vs Blackpool Match Preview
Sunderland have games in hand on the other League One promotion-chasers and are expected to boost their chances of going up this term by beating Blackpool.
The Black Cats were relegated in both of the two previous campaigns, now in the third tier for only the second season in their history, but they are making a decent job of ensuring it will be only a temporary stay.
Unbeaten at home, Jack Ross’ side are competing with Luton, Barnsley, Portsmouth and Charlton for the two automatic promotion places and have the chance to gain ground on all of those rivals with a three-point haul on Tuesday at home to the Tangerines.
Blackpool are in the hunt to reach the play-offs, which would be another excellent achievement considering the off-field turmoil regarding the club’s ownership which has been dragging on for several years now.
Terry McPhillips has done a terrific job as manager since taking over at the start of the season from Gary Bowyer, who had been faring well himself but had clearly had a bellyful of the internal conflict in the boardroom at Bloomfield Road and duly walked out.
The Seasiders have kept three consecutive clean sheets away from home, including at Portsmouth, but the Stadium of Light has become something of a fortress in this division and Sunderland are backed to keep their promotion quest on track.
