Stoke vs QPR Match Preview
Stoke were strongly fancied to go right back up last season but it did not work out and they ended the season in 16th place. Nathan Jones steadied the ship following his appointment mid-way through the season and now after a full summer will hope to push the ideas across that worked so well at Luton. Bookmakers think Stoke could be in a good for a good season are between fourth and sixth favourites (depending on where you look) which would see them in the play-offs.
At the BET365 Stadium, the Potters were the 16th best-ranked home side with eight victories, nine draws and six defeats from 23. Games at this ground tended to be tight producing just 50 in total, with 26 for and 24 against.
QPR finished 19th last season which meant the end of Steve McClaren and Mark Warburton is the new man in charge. Warburton has experience at this level and has overseen a high volume of players in and out of the club. Bookmakers think the London side will be bottom-half but safe and make them 16th favourites for the title.
Away from Loftus Road, the Rs struggled last season winning just five times and tasting defeat in just over half of their fixtures (12 of 23). Only three sides managed to net a lower road amount than the 20 the London outfit bagged.
Bookmakers make strong favourites to win this and while it is hard to argue with that, it is also hard to get excited by the prices on offer. Both these players have new options up front so looking at the anytime scorer market could be where to get the value. For Stoke, Lee Gregory, Benik Afobe and Sam Vokes all provide options up front but Nick Powell can play just off the front players and has already shown at Wigan an eye for goal. For QPR, we like the look of Jordan Hugill who had a great record at this level for Preston before a move to West Ham did not work out. As the focal point of the attack, we think he could have a good season and like him to net at any time here.
