Stoke City vs Leeds United Match Preview
Leeds have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this week, but are fancied to cement their position at the top of the Championship table by winning at Stoke.
The ‘Spygate’ affair that surfaced in the build-up to Leeds’ 2-0 victory at home to Derby last Friday took a bizarre twist on Wednesday when manager Marcelo Bielsa held an impromptu press conference laying bare all the details about the lengths to which he and his staff have been going to research opponents.
It all seems a bit surreal and unnecessary and Leeds may yet be punished by the Football League. But they still have to do the business out on the pitch and they certainly have, establishing themselves as much the most likely team to gain automatic promotion.
In contrast, Stoke are under-achieving and their new manager Nathan Jones has yet to make any kind of positive impression, losing his first match 3-1 at Brentford and then seeing his team knocked out of the FA Cup on their own pitch by League One side Shrewsbury.
Whether Leeds have been surreptitiously watching Stoke’s training sessions or not, they have been much the better of these teams this season and are expected to leave Jones still waiting for his first point with the Potters.
