Hibernian open the new campaign as they travel to Stirling for their League Cup clash on Saturday afternoon, looking to build on solid performances we’ve seen in exciting friendlies against Dunfermline Athletic (1-3) and Carlisle United (3-4) earlier this month.
Hibs have thus finally ended a four-match losing streak seen beforehand and Paul Heckingbottom will be desperate to build on the consistency here, with League Two rivals obviously not on the same level at this point. However, he’ll have to warn against complacency and the visitors will have to make up for the lack of the competitive edge here.
Stirling Albion have proven themselves a tough nut to crack on many occasions but they’ve struggled to earn great confidence boosters lately, as they saw losses to Raith Rovers (1-0) and Hamilton Academical (2-0) in late June and early July, respectively.
Binos have struggled to score goals and this will feel even more worrying, after they failed to find the net in four of their last five outings across competitions – including the mentioned pre-season losses. They haven’t been conceding many either but Kevin Rutkiewicz will have to find a cure quickly if his men are to challenge Hibernian for the points on Saturday.
We don’t see them doing so, though, and we’ll now back Hibernian to kick-start the new campaign with a confident display at Forthbank Stadium. We’ll go for the visitors to bag a win to Nil, which comes at 10/11 with bet365.
