St Mirren vs Celtic Match Preview
Celtic travel to Simple Digital Arena for their Matchday 20 clash on Boxing Day in a great mood as they sit at the top of the table with a five-point gap to 2nd placed Rangers (who do have a game in hand), boasting a great run across competitions where they were denied points just once in 16 outings since mid-October.
Bhoys beat Hibernian (2-0), Hearts (0-2), and Aberdeen (2-1) in their last three outings and while they’ve had more trouble outclassing the Dons, we’ve seen them build on a fine goalscoring form. They’ve been led by in-form Odsonne Edouard, who bagged two on those three occasions and a total of 15 goals in 22 appearances this term.
St Mirren have capitalized on a somewhat more lenient schedule and bagged five points in their respective last three games, where they beat Hamilton (0-1) and held off both Livingston (3-3) and St Johnstone (0-0) since. They have been scoring goals quite regularly but struggled to cope with the big guns, which will be more worrying.
Buddies have certainly struggled to make an impact against Celtic and they’ve seen nine losses in their ten head-to-head clashes since 2014, only holding on to a point in a goalless draw at this ground in September last year. They will now hope for a similar upset but we don’t see them up to the task at this point.
We will thus back Celtic to secure the points and we’re going for a comfortable win for the visitors, backing them with Asian Handicap -2.5 at 27/20 with bet365. We’ve seen them convincing in the final third and we now hope for another such occasion here.
St Mirren haven’t been able to keep hold of such stability in the goalscoring department and with that in mind, we feel they could struggle to break down Celtic’s defensive line. We’re thus backing the visitors to keep a clean sheet too, which comes at 8/11 with VirginBet.
