St Mirren vs Aberdeen Match Preview
Aberdeen suffered a Europa League qualifying setback on Thursday and will hope to recover when they visit St Mirren, aiming to make it two wins out of two in the Premiership.
The Dons had got through their opening two continental ties against teams from Finland and Georgia with contrasting levels of comfort, but will very much have to do it the hard way to get past their old foes Rijeka after losing the first leg 2-0 in Croatia.
Before hosting the return match, Aberdeen make the journey to Paisley and it has to be said their away form in Europe has been weaker than their results at Pittodrie, where they also began the league campaign with a 3-2 victory against Hearts last weekend capped by a Sam Cosgrove double.
It has been a similar story so far this term for St Mirren, who have drawn three consecutive goalscoring blanks on the road to bow out of the League Cup and also lost 1-0 to a late Hibernian winner in their Premiership opener after probably being worthy of a point.
But Jim Goodwin’s side have found it easier to score goals on their own pitch and they must be relishing the luxury of home comforts here as they aim to prove wrong the bookmakers, who have them as favourites for relegation this season.
It’s feasible that Aberdeen may have one eye on their European tie here as they aim to get past the third qualifying round for the first time in 12 years and St Mirren may just be capable of holding them.
