St Etienne vs Nantes Match Preview
St Etienne have seen a thrashing League Cup loss at PSG (6-1) midway through the week and host Nantes looking to bounce quickly, having struggled for consistency across competitions and now sitting in the bottom half of the table desperate for points to catch up with the top 4.
Les Verts have thus seen their quite unpredictable spell of form on the road continue, as they beat Nimes (1-2) and Bastia-Borgo (0-3) but were shut down by Strasbourg (2-1) in three games since mid-December. They have struggled to retain stability in front of the home fans just as well, which leaves Claude Puel’s men with a lot to prove.
Nantes have, on the other end, beaten Aviron Bayonnais (0-2) in Coupe de France last week and returned to the winning ways after disappointing home displays against Strasbourg (0-1) and Angers (1-2) back in December. They still sit just outside the top 4 and challenging Lille with points here will be a great task.
Canaries found their goalscoring consistency lately and will want to keep it up, but it’s fair to note they failed to find the net in three of their four trips beforehand – which will be more worrying. They can’t boast great head-to-head records of recent either, having last beaten St Etienne in January 2016 and seeing three losses in the last four clashes.
We now feel St Etienne will be able to build on such records and bag all three points on the day, as we go for an enticing Home win at 6/4 with William Hill. We have seen them rock-solid here on many occasions and this could be a chance for a leap on the Ligue 1 table.
However, they could have to base such a success on a tough defensive approach and this could mean a very narrow occasion in the making. We’ve been used to such clashes at Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium and we’re now going for another with Under 2.5 Goals FT, which comes off as a banker bet at 8/15 with bet365.
