Sporting Lisbon vs PSV Eindhoven Match Preview
Sporting Lisbon top the Group D table with nine points to their name as they host PSV for their Matchday 5 Europa League clash on Thursday, hoping to build on the gap behind them and make a great step towards the knockout stages. They’ve been in fine form lately and have great ground to build on but Leonel Pontes’ men will also have to take revenge for a thriller 3-2 loss suffered in Eindhoven.
Leoes have bagged five wins in their last six outings and only saw the streak interrupted on their early-November trip to Tondela (1-0). They beat Rosenborg (0-2) and Belenenses (2-0) since, only returning from the International break on the day and surely hoping to use the rest on their hands to their advantage.
PSV have, on the other hand, ended a six-match winless streak as they beat Heerenveen (2-1) on Sunday where early goals from Steven Bergwijn proved enough for all three points. They’ve struggled beforehand, though, and this could be more worrying for Mark van Bommel ahead of the all-important trip to Portugal.
Boeren have been scoring goals on the regular but struggled to capitalize with many defensive slip-ups. They’ve conceded a high total of 13 goals in the last five outings and shutting down the in-form rivals almost seems like a mission impossible at this point, which has many rating a possible upset only through outgunning Sporting once again.
We don’t see them making it happen, though, and we’ll now rather back Sporting Lisbon to make it a gap behind them with all three points. We’ll go for their sixth win in seven outings across competitions at an eye-catching 6/4 with William Hill.
We should be in for goals, though, and we hope to see them on both ends as we go for a high-scoring occasion! We’ll back Over 2.5 Goals FT at 4/5 with VirginBet, which seems like a great approach to the fixture by itself as both sides enjoy such games on the regular.
