Sporting Lisbon vs Benfica Match Preview
Benfica travel to city rivals Sporting on the back of a convincing home display against Boavista (5-1), now looking to build on it and keep up with Porto at the top of the table – putting the Taca da Liga semi-finals loss to Dragons (3-1) behind them.
Eagles have thus bagged their fourth win in five outings and will now be very motivated to build on the streak, despite losing on their stability at the back more recently. They’ve based their success on it and will now be desperate to rediscover such form at Estadio Jose Alvalade, promising a strong challenge on the day.
However, Sporting Lisbon have Cup success behind them as they beat both Sporting Braga and Porto on penalties after 1-1 draws and lifted the Taca da Liga trophy – and although they’ve seen a 1-1 draw at Vitoria Setubal end the winning streak, we should see them just as confident.
Lions have been scoring and conceding more goals along the way but still proved themselves as a very tough side to outgun, which should be the case now as well. Marcel Keizer will want his men to take the positives and there have been a lot lately, as in-form Bas Dost continues to lead the attacking line.
Nonetheless, we expect a strong challenge from the visitors and we now hope for a tough deadlock to break, as we stick with the sides to share the spoils in a Draw priced at 11/5 with Unibet.
With that in mind, we expect both sides looking to keep it together with high stakes involved and we’ll now also back Under 2.5 Goals FT at 8/11 with BetVictor. We’ve seen such contests in all of the sides’ last four head-to-head clashes and this looks like another such occasion in the making.
