Spain continue to rebuild after a disastrous World Cup in Russia last summer. After losing their manager Julen Lopetegui to Real Madrid on the eve of the tournament, Fernando Hierro came in on a temporary basis at the last moment, but could only lead the 2010 winners of the tournament into the second round were they were beaten by hosts Russia. As such, the decision to replace him with Luis Enrique came as little surprise after the tournament’s end.
After a rollercoaster UEFA Nations League saw them pick up two victories but go down twice to Croatia and England, la Furia Roja have started their European Championship qualifying period with three consecutive victories over Norway, Malta and the Faroe Islands. Although they are still in a period of transition under Enrique, they are still a strong side and should pick up three more points here at 1/4 with Spreadex.
Sweden enjoyed their best World Cup performance since 1994 in Russia last summer. After making it through a tough group ahead of the holders Germany, Blagult made it past Switzerland but fell at the hands of England in the Quarter Finals. Now, they’re looking to confirm their route through to a sixth consecutive European Championships as they haven’t failed to qualify for the tournament since 1996.
After winning their UEFA Nations League group, Janne Andersson and his side have already opened up one route to the tournament but they will be hoping to qualify anyway from their group alongside Spain who are expected to finish top. So far, the Scandinavian side have picked up seven points from their last nine, beating Romania and Malta and drawing with Norway. Can they spring a surprise here at 14/1 with Ladbrokes.
With the home advantage and superior squad, it’s no surprise that we’re backing La Roja to pick up all three points here. It’s worth noting though, that Luis Enrique’s side have kept just two clean sheets in their last seven outings and in Sweden, they come up against a side that has found the net ten times in it’s last four outings. We’re backing Spain to win and both teams to score in this one at 13/5 with Bet365.
