Spain vs Norway Match Preview

Spain are looking to rebuild under Luis Enrique following a difficult year last time around. The former Barcelona boss is the man who has been tasked with getting La Roja back to the top spot in European football after their dominance in the last decade after a turbulent World Cup campaign saw them lose manager Julen Lopetegui on the eve of the tournament and go on to win only one of their four games, crashing out to Russia on penalties in the Round of 16.

Enrique instilled his approach into the squad in the UEFA Nations League somewhat, ensuring they picked up wins against both opponents Croatia and England, but defeats to those two sides in the other two games saw them miss out of top spot in the Division A group. After returning to winning ways with a friendly victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina last time out they’re now expected to start this qualifying campaign with a win at 2/11 with Bet365.

Norway enjoyed their best period as a footballing nation at the end of the 1990s, qualifying for three consecutive major tournaments and seeing plenty of their players enjoy success in some of Europe’s top leagues. Although they still possess some talented players, the Scandinavian nation has struggled to compete since then though, with their last qualification for a major tournament coming back in 2000 – can they finally end that long wait this time around?

They have certainly kept two avenues open after their terrific performances in a tough Nations League group. Now managed by former Iceland hero Lars Lagerback, they managed to finish top of their group above Bulgaria Cyprus and Slovenia to confirm at least a play-off spot in the hunt for qualification to Euro 2020. They begin their actual qualifying period with their toughest fixture away to Spain here and the away win is 11/2 with PaddyPower.

We can see Spain winning this one, but it might not be easy. Lovene will be on a high following their exploits in the Nations League and confidence will be high, whilst Spain have lost their last two competitive matches and are still finding their feet under the stewardship of Luis Enrique. The superior quality of the home side should shine through but we’re backing them to win by just a one goal margin here at Spain to win by one goal @ 11/4 with William Hill.
