Spain vs Malta Match Preview
Spain host Malta for their Matchday 9 clash with their ticket to the final tournament all but secured despite draws against Norway (1-1) and Sweden (1-1) now behind them, as they sit six points clear of 3rd placed Romania. They will still want to show off in Cadiz and we hope to see a one-sided contest on Friday evening.
La Furia Roja haven’t really been as impressive up front lately, though, and will surely want to pick it up at home ground again. They’ve beaten Sweden (3-0) and Faroe Islands (4-0) in the last two outings in Spain and netted seven goals along the way, which will be a great confidence booster by itself.
Malta have struggled to make a real impact in Group F despite opening the campaign with a 2-1 win over Faroe Islands, seeing seven consecutive losses and scoring no goals since. They’ve put on some tough displays away from home but will now obviously be in for the toughest challenge yet!
Knights of Malta have conceded just four goals on their last three trips and Raymond Farrugia will want more of the same when it comes to their consistency at the back. They have struggled to give Spain a run for their money in head-to-head clashes so far, though, and we don’t see them doing so on the day either.
However, Robert Moreno will want to warn against complacency and we expect his men in good spirits. While we expect an early opener as Spain always go out to get it, we hope to see them only make it comfortable in the second half – as we go for the 2nd half to be the Highest Scoring Half at 17/20 with William Hill.
This would make it the third such occasion in a row for Spain at home ground and we feel it’s great value despite the obvious difference in depth of quality. While we should be in for an exciting game, we’re now also going for Under 4.5 Goals FT at 11/8 with BetVictor.
