Southend vs Sunderland Match Preview
Southend host Sunderland on the last day of the campaign sitting just above the relegation zone with Plymouth, Walsall, and Scunthorpe all breathing down their necks, as Kevin Bond’s men look to build on the important 3-2 win over Burton Albion last time out here.
Seasiders have seen another disappointing trip since as Rochdale (1-0) bagged all three points with a single goal from Ian Henderson and will now have to search for ways to recuperate quickly. They still have their fate in their own hands but it’s obvious there’s a lot to prove at Roots Hall as well.
Sunderland do have a busier schedule with a mid-week trip to Fleetwood Town, having shared the spoils with Peterborough (1-1) and Portsmouth (1-1) in two very narrow outings beforehand. They’ve struggled for consistency at the most crucial time, though, and this has all but proven costly.
Black Cats have proven themselves a very tough nut to crack on the road, though, and should be motivated to show off again. They’ve seen just one loss in the last 12 trips and this goes to promise a great challenge in Southend-on-Sea too.
We will thus stick with Sunderland to hold off the shaky rivals but we don’t see them snatching all three points either, as we go for a Draw at 13/5 with bet365 as the best approach to the market at this point.
However, we don’t feel we’re in for many goals and this adds to the belief we’re in for a deadlock tough to break, as we also back Under 2.5 Goals FT at 4/5 with William Hill. Southend have seen many such occasions lately and we now hope for more of the same on their end.
