Southend vs Ipswich Preview
Ipswich have seen two losses over the past seven days and dropped the League One top spot, now sitting behind Peterborough only for their goal difference but with a game in hand. They travel to struggling Southend on Saturday looking to pick it up but will obviously need more moving the ball out from the back.
Tractor Boys never seemed like scoring as they fell victims to Accrington Stanley (2-0) and Rotherham (0-2), seeing a five-match winning streak and an unbeaten streak going back as far as mid-August. They based their success on solid defensive displays and will now need to recuperate quickly, as Paul Lambert doesn’t want moments of individual brilliance to do the job.
Southend do seem like a solid chance to put things behind them, though, as the rivals come into the match with just five points to their name. They’ve seen five losses in six games across competitions and only held Tranmere to a 1-1 draw along the way, which hardly feels like a great confidence booster.
Shrimpers conceded seven goals in an eventful and thrashing 1-7 loss to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday, where Isaac Hutchinson’s early opener proved as nothing more than a poor consolation. They will obviously need more defensively but they’ve had a hard time making it happen, which has many seeing them as the prime favourites for relegation.
We will now back Ipswich to finally bounce and challenge for the top spot once again, going for an Away win to Nil at 17/10 with William Hill. They will have to rediscover their stability at the back if they’re to snatch the points and we do see them doing so.
Tractor Boys have been far from impressive in the final third, though, and we don’t feel we’re in for a very one-sided contest. With that in mind, we’re going for fewer goals and we’ll back Under 2.5 Goals FT at 19/20 with bet365 – which has caught the eye of many value seekers already.
