Southampton vs Wolves Match Preview
Wolves missed out on the FA Cup Final in heartbreaking fashion last weekend, but still have a chance of qualifying for Europe via the Premier League.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side looked all set for a return Wembley visit to face Manchester City when they led 2-0 against Watford entering the 79th minute only to be pegged back and taken to extra time, in which they conceded a winner.
Now Wolves will be aiming to finish seventh in the league table and if they do, hoping that City beat Watford in the final to ensure their own first foray into Europe since 1980-81.
But it’s now a tight battle for seventh place involving at least four clubs and there is no guarantee Wolves will boost their chances away to Southampton, who are certainly improving under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl despite still having relegation worries.
Saints have stepped up their previously poor home form in the last few months and gave Liverpool a Friday night fright last week before eventually succumbing within the final 10 minutes.
This looks a closely-matched contest with Southampton holding home advantage and a draw is our idea of the likely outcome – a result that would probably suit Hasenhuttl’s side more than their visitors.
