Southampton vs Leicester City Match Preview
Four seasons after their incredible Premier League title success, Leicester City can climb to second position in the table, for 16 hours or so at least, if they win at Southampton on Friday.
The Foxes would still be five points behind Liverpool, who play on Sunday, but can split the two main contenders to be champions by climbing above Manchester City before they contest the Saturday lunchtime match at home to Aston Villa.
While other members of the ‘big six’ struggle, Leicester have capitalised under manager Brendan Rodgers and they look every inch like a team set to return to European football next term having won five of their last seven league games to be third in the table on merit.
But if there is a worry about Leicester, it’s their away form. They simply look a more effective side on their own pitch, especially when it comes to scoring goals, although in fairness they have got three of their five most difficult road trips out of the way already.
Southampton, meanwhile, are actually better on their travels because they have not won at St Mary’s since mid-April whereas they have enjoyed two away victories this season. But as the stats above reveal, there is usually plenty of entertainment in their home fixtures.
Leicester will undoubtedly have plenty of backers here at the 11/8 available at the time of writing, but they have not kept a clean sheet away to top-flight opposition in their last 13 attempts and that persuades us to think Southampton will hold them to a draw.
