Southampton v Derby County Match Preview

Southampton host Derby for the replay of their FA Cup clash on Wednesday after holding the rivals to a 2-2 draw at Pride Park in early January, where goals from Nathan Redmond put them in front but the Rams still pulled it back as Jack Marriott and Thomas Lawrence both found the net in just a couple of minutes.

Saints have kept up their fine form early in 2019 with a 1-2 win at Leicester since and Ralph Hasenhuttl will be desperate for more of the same, as Cup success would surely see his men riding the high in their attempts to escape the Premier League danger zone as well.

Derby will have plans of their own and they have come oh-so-close to securing a ticket late in the first match. Although they’ve failed to build on their unbeaten streak on Friday, suffering a 2-0 loss at Leeds, we expect them very motivated to impress at St. Mary’s.

Rams have struggled for consistency on the road but we’ve seen them scoring goals on the regular, as the trip to Leeds came as the first time they’ve failed to do so in ten trips. Frank Lampard will surely want to cause an upset now as well and his men have already proven themselves capable in FA Cup.

We will thus stick our necks out for them to hold out at St. Mary’s as we go for another Draw between the sides, which comes at 3/1 with Betfred and looks more than a lively longshot at this point.

We do feel they’ll have to score goals to do so, though, and Southampton should come just as motivated in the final third. With that in mind, we’ll now also go for a Yes on Both teams to score at 20/23 with Betfair and hope for an exciting clash in Southampton.
