Southampton vs Crystal Palace Match Preview
Southampton host Crystal Palace just days after their trip to London and Boxing Day clash at Chelsea, as they look to build on a solid run where they capitalized on a more lenient schedule and bagged ten of their 18 points in six outings since the November International break.
Saints held off Arsenal (2-2) back in November and beat Watford (2-1), Norwich (2-1), and Aston Villa (1-3 last week) since. They’ve seen losses to Newcastle (2-1) and West Ham (0-1) along the way but the fans finally have things to be happy about, as Ralph Hasenhuttl looks set for a fierce battle for top-flight survival.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, come into the match with a more disappointing run behind them, where they bagged two points in three games ahead of their mid-week clash against West Ham. They bagged just a single goal in the process and this could be even more worrying despite an eight-point gap to the relegation zone.
Eagles held off Watford (0-0) on the road and saw Brighton (1-1) snatch a point at Selhurst Park before falling victims to Newcastle (1-0) last week, where Miguel Almiron found the late winner and denied them any points. They will now want to bounce quickly and keep up with the top five but certainly have a lot to prove in such an attempt.
We don’t feel Crystal Palace will now be able to show more and we’ll back Southampton to secure all three points on the day, where a Home win comes priced at Evens with BetVictor and looks like value at this point – despite their unpredictable spell of form.
Eagles have struggled to impress in the final third but Southampton’s struggling back line – who haven’t kept a clean sheet since September – looks like a great chance to end the goalscoring drought. We’ll thus also go for a Yes on Both teams to score at 10/11 with William Hill.
