South Korea vs Australia Match Preview

South Korea’s only defeat since the World Cup cost them any chance of lifting this year’s Asian Cup, and they will aim to continue their generally excellent form when they host Australia in this friendly match.

Although they exited the World Cup at the group stage, South Korea bowed out on a high when they remarkably ended Germany’s reign with a 2-0 win and they went into January’s Asian Cup as leading contenders.

But after a blemish-free group phase, Paulo Bento’s side needed extra time to squeeze past Bahrain and then lost 1-0 to eventual champions Qatar in the quarter-finals as the Middle Eastern teams stepped up in a tournament that took place in their part of the continent.

Since then, South Korea have won at home to Bolivia and Colombia to show they were not disheartened by losing to Qatar – but their odds to beat Australia here look to be a little on the short side.

The Socceroos exited the Asian Cup at the same stage as the Koreans and manager Graham Arnold is using this as an opportunity to look at some new blood, with Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne set to win his first cap along with Rotherham winger Ryan Williams.

With South Korea not having the best of recent records against Australia (see stats above) we will back honours to end even in Busan.
