Slovakia vs Croatia Predictions
Slovakia have made a strong start to qualifying for the next European Championships. Three years ago they made it as far as the final 16 stage of the tournament, qualifying alongside England and Wales in third place from their group before losing to Germany in the first knock-out round. Having missed out on the World Cup in Russia last summer they will be more determined than ever to ensure they qualify again for the Euros this time around.
It’s been a strong enough start to qualifying too as Sokoli have picked up six points from an available nine so far. Victories against Hungary and Azerbaijan leave Pavel Hapal’s in a solid position, although defeat away at Wales will have curtailed expectations somewhat. A victory here against last year’s World Cup finalists and the favourites for the group would be huge at odds of 3/1 with Bet365.
Croatia have struggled somewhat in the post-World Cup year after their best ever performance at a major tournament saw them lose in the final at the hands of fellow European outfit France. They finished midtable in their UEFA Nations League group, failing to qualify for the semi-finals mostly as a result of their 6-0 hammering away to Spain and they’ve failed to win friendlies against Portugal and Tunisia in that time.
It’s been a difficult start to the campaign in qualifying too as Vatreni struggled to very narrow 2-1 victories over both Azerbaijan and Wales despite being heavy favourites to win both of those games and falling to a defeat to Hungary by the same scoreline away from home as the Magyars now top the group. Zlatko Dalic’s side are in real need of three points on this trip, can they earn them at odds of 23/20 with Coral.
We’re backing the hosts to take something from this game though. Repre have raised their game in the group so far and are the only side to beat Hungary in this qualification group so far. Indeed, they’ve lost just one of their last 11 home games, winning nine of those fixtures. Croatia don’t appear to be at their best at the moment as they look to be in transition following that success in Russia last term. We’re backing the hosts on the double chance market at 8/11 with William Hill.
Marek Hamsik got on the scoresheet twice in Slovakia’s last qualifier, the 5-1 win over Azerbaijan, and the Napoli midfielder is a legend in his country as captain, leading all-time appearance holder and leading all-time scorer for Repre with 24 goals to his name. We’re backing the 32 year old to add to his tally with another in this game at 24/5 with Unibet.
