Slavia Prague vs Genk Match Preview
Two clubs in great shape to win their respective domestic titles, but with a clash of styles in the Europa League, go head-to-head for a place in the last 16.
Slavia Prague were runners-up last season in the Czech Republic but hold a six-point lead this time around, so they have every chance of being in the Champions League next term having failed to qualify at the start of this campaign when they lost to Dynamo Kiev.
Genk, meanwhile, are 11 points clear in Belgium and that represents a huge improvement on last season’s fifth place for the club managed by Philippe Clement, who played 12 Premier League matches for Coventry City in the late 1990s.
In terms of the different styles, Slavia are rock-solid defensively. They kept three clean sheets out of three at home in the group stage and have done likewise in winning their last two competitive matches.
Jindrich Trpisovsky’s side are capable of scoring plenty of goals too, and the same is true of Genk who notched 14 in the round-robin phase yet they also conceded seven on their travels.
That porousness could hinder the Belgian team, at least in this first leg, and so Slavia are backed to ensure their home ground remains a fortress and give themselves every chance for next week’s return match.
