Sheffield Wednesday vs Barnsley Match Preview
Sheff Wed started their season with a 3-1 road success claiming all three points thanks to a goal each from Sam Hutchinson, Kadeem Harris and Lucas Joao. Wednesday though were flattered by the scoreline though according to the expected goals data.
At Hillsborough, the Owls were decent last season with ten victories, eight draws and just five defeats from their 23 played. They suffered defeat in just two of the last 15 they played at the end of the 2018/19 campaign.
Barnsley were the second favourites for the drop going into the season but showed they belong with a 1-0 defeat of Fulham in front of their own fans. The expected goals data shows the result was a fair reflection with Luke Thomas grabbing the only goal.
Away from Oakwell, the Tykes have lost just three competetive fixtures during the calendar year with one of those coming in the FA Cup. In just two of their last ten on the road have they failed to find the back of the net.
It is hard to argue with the prices on offer which suggest a side likely to finish in the middle third of the table should beat a side in the lower third but respect is paid to this being a Yorkshire derby and the result achieved by Barnsley on the opening weekend. A better way in to the fixture is in the goalscorer markets and for the hosts Steven Fletcher does appeal given his start but at much bigger odds it is Kadeem Harris who gets the nod. For the visitors, Mallik Wilks is a name to watch and he registered a remarkable seven shots at the weekend and must be due a goal soon.
