Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Match Preview
Sevilla host Athletic Bilbao for their Matchday 38 derby clash as both sides come in desperate need of points to challenge a spot in UEFA competitions next term, where Joaquin Caparros’ men sit just two points behind 4th placed Valencia and 5th placed Getafe but have Bilbao breathing down their necks in an attempt to jump them with an upset here.
Sevillistas have struggled for consistency lately and this has proven costly in such a chase, as they dropped important points to Girona (1-0) and Leganes (0-3) in late April and early May – only bouncing with a 1-1 draw snatched at Atletico Madrid.
They will now want more but outclassing Athletic Bilbao should be no easy task, as the visitors come just as motivated despite an unpredictable run on the road. They come into the match on the back of a 3-1 win over Celta Vigo in a furious first-half performance and goals from Raul Garcia (x2) and Inaki Williams, which promises them in a great mood.
However, Los Leones have largely struggled to put on such displays up front away from home and this will be more worrying as they not only suffered three losses in their last four trips – but they also failed to find the net as Getafe (1-0), Real Madrid (3-0), and Valladolid (1-0) all secured the points.
We do feel Sevilla will now be able to do the same despite troubles of their own and we’ll now back them to bag all three points, going for a Home win at an enticing 4/5 with bet365 despite a tough challenge looming.
We don’t feel we’re in for many goals either and with the high stakes involved as well as the sides’ recent performances, Under 2.5 Goals FT looks great value at 11/10 with bet365. We’ve seen two or fewer goals in two of both sides’ respective last three outings, which does feel like further evidence.
