Sevilla vs Athletic Bilbao Match Preview
Sevilla have beaten Athletic Bilbao at San Mames Barria (1-3) and made a big step towards the Copa del Rey Quarter-finals, hosting the rivals for the second leg in hope they can build on the success with another confident display in front of the home fans.
Sevillistas have been very confident here and we’ve seen them ten wins in 11 home outings since mid-September, only seeing the winning streak ended by Atletico Madrid (1-1) in early January. They will now want to show off once again and we feel Pablo Machin should have no troubles getting his men to do so.
Athletic Bilbao haven’t really enjoyed the first-leg thriller but we have seen them beat the rivals 2-0 in La Liga on Sunday, where a brace from Inaki Williams proved enough for all three points. This should have them just as motivated to bounce back from advantage Sevilla earned last week.
Indeed, Los Leones have been scoring goals on the road and will now want another such day at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. However, they don’t have a long history of doing so here and this will be more worrying, as Gaizka Garitano looks for a way to turn this one around.
We don’t see the visitors doing so and we’ll now back Sevilla to put this one out of reach with a Home win priced at 7/10 with Ladbrokes, which has been rated a generous banker bet by many in know.
Still, we haven’t really gotten used to thrillers in Seville and we feel the home side will want to base their success on a tough defensive display. We’ll thus stick our necks out for Under 2.5 Goals FT at 11/10 with Coral, which would be the fifth such occasion in Sevilla’s last six home outings.
