Scunthorpe vs Derby Match Preview
Derby County have kicked off the new campaign under Philip Cocu well and they travel to Scunthorpe for their League Cup clash on Tuesday evening hoping they can build on such a start, where they bagged four points in two Championship outings despite a rather tough schedule.
Indeed, the Rams have beaten Huddersfield (1-2) with two early goals from Thomas Lawrence and they went on to hold Swansea to a goalless draw in front of the home fans, as Richard Keogh led the side impressively in his 350th appearance with the club. They will now hope for more of the same and we expect them very motivated at Sands Venue Stadium.
Scunthorpe had bagged a thriller win over the rivals in their last League Cup encounter back in August 2012, winning on penalties after an amazing 5-5 draw. They now hope for a similar upset but feel far off, having dropped into the League Two after five third tier seasons and struggling to pick it up early on.
Iron have kicked off the campaign with a 0-2 loss to Swindon Town but the 4-1 loss at Cheltenham Town felt more disappointing for Paul Hurst, as his men conceded three goals within five minutes after taking the lead early in the second half. They will now need more against Derby and we don’t see them up to the task at this point.
We will thus back the visitors to make their way to the next round over the rivals and do so on the back of a win here, which comes at 4/5 with Paddy Power and has been rated value by many in the know already.
Scunthorpe have struggled to impress and their defensive inconsistency has been obvious. With that in mind, we feel going for goals with Over 2.5 Goals FT serves as a solid approach to the fixture as well, catching the eye of many at 5/6 with Unibet.
