Scotland vs San Marino Match Preview
Scotland have seen three consecutive losses since June and all but lost their chances of a top 2 cut in EURO 2020 Qualifiers Group I, sitting 11 points behind 2nd placed Russia as they head into their October outings. They host San Marino for their Matchday 8 clash on Sunday afternoon, just days after their trip to Russia and still hope they can show off in front of the home fans.
Steve Clarke’s men had bagged a comfortable 0-2 win in San Marino and built on it with a narrow 2-1 win over Cyprus, but have struggled to really make an impact since. They’ve seen two thrashing losses to Belgium (3-0 and 0-4) but the 1-2 loss in the hands of Russia will feel more disappointing at this point.
San Marino have been the outsiders from the get-go and they now sit rock-bottomed with no points to their name, which does make this a chance to bag some easy points in the minds of many. With that in mind, we do feel they’re an easy target at Hampden Park and it’s tough to see them cope well.
Even more worryingly for the visitors, La Serenissima have conceded a high total of 28 goals and they’re yet to find the net in the Qualifiers campaign. We don’t feel they’ll be able to do so now either and Scotland should be able to make this smooth sailing on the day.
However, we don’t feel we’re in for a thrashing and Scotland have hardly been the most impressive side in the final third. We will now stick our necks for what feels like a lively longshot and back Scotland to win by exactly 3 goals, which comes at an eye-catching 6/1 with bet365.
We haven’t seen the home side score a lot of goals in a long time and the last time they’ve bagged five or more goals was against Malta (1-5) back in September 2016. We will thus also go for Under 5.5 Goals FT, which comes at Evens with bet365!
